About Asthma  >  Signs and Symptoms  >  Management and Control
Asthma is diagnosed by a doctor based on four symptoms. They are:

1. Cough
Worse at night, after exercise, in a smoky room or in cold air

2. Wheeze
A whistling noise, often heard best when breathing out

3. Breathing faster than usual
Count your breathing rate for 30 seconds. Compare this to your normal rate

4. Sucking in the chest skin
Look for this in between the ribs (in children) and at the front of the neck (in adults)
